What do Chiropractors Do?
A Natural, non-invasive approach to health care
Skepticism and fear keep some patients at bay, that’s why your Seattle Chiropractor has provided you with factual information regarding this safe, alternative back pain treatment.
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism, which is controlled by your brain, spinal cord and nerves of the body. The vertebrae protect the nervous system, and when they are misaligned or lose normal motion, the tissues and organs throughout the body begin to malfunction.
Chiropractic medicine is a form of natural health care that focuses on treating a patient without the use of drugs or medicines. Doctors of Chiropractic are primary health care providers licensed in all 50 states. Chiropractors are recognized by governmental health care programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Workers’ Compensation programs and more. Every year, more than 30 million Americans see these back pain doctors as part of the regular health care programs and with over 84,000 licensed chiropractors nationwide and over 10,000 students currently enrolled in chiropractic school, it’s the fastest growing health care profession.

How does Seattle Chiropractic care work?
The main causes of joint dysfunction are mechanical, chemical, and mental. Mechanical causes are referred to as micro or macro trauma. Micro trauma is also referred to as repetitive stress injury. Sitting with poor posture at a desk and typing all day can cause problems such as carpal tunnel or neck, upper back, or low back pain. Macro trauma refers to pain due to trauma to the body, such as a fall, a break, or a car crash. Both forms of mechanical causes of joint dysfunction can benefit immensely from chiropractic care. Chemical effects cause joint dysfunction, as well. Smoking, heavy drinking, and poor diet will create these chemical imbalances.
Chiropractic care helps to remove postural imbalances and vertebral misalignments. This alternative treatment works by restoring your inherent ability to be healthy. To remain healthy, your nervous system must function well by being free of interference. By restoring spinal function with your chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference by misaligned vertebrae is removed, thus allowing optimal nervous system function and improved health.
The customized care you receive from your Northwest Spine doctor may help to improve your posture, muscle balance and mobility. It can also restore the integrity of your nervous system and quickly relieve pain to get you back to feeling good!
Seattle Chiropractor Adjustments & Manipulation
The term “adjustment” refers to the specific manipulation chiropractors apply to vertebrae with abnormal movement patterns, or those that are dysfunctional. The adjustment consists of a quick, short lever arm thrust applied to a vertebra, which is often accompanied by an audible release of gas (joint cavitation). This cracking sound is caused by the release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide.
The goal of Seattle chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability and improving function.
Subluxation
Chiropractors are specialists in correcting subluxation and other misalignments. Chiropractics can restore misaligned vertebrae to their proper position in the spinal column through manual, spinal adjustments. At Northwest Spine Clinic, the doctors strategically place his or her hands on the spine to apply corrective pressure, resulting in a thrust-like motion. The thrust helps restore the alignment and mobility of the vertebrae. In some cases, the instruments may be used to detect a subluxation and adjust the spine.
Under normal circumstances, chiropractic adjustments are painless. In cases of trauma resulting in car accidents, some discomfort may be experienced due to inflammation. It is also common to feel a brief sensation in the extremities immediately following an adjustment due to the sudden decompression of the affected nerve root. Learn more about Subluxation
