Seattle Auto Injuries & Whiplash

Neck & Back Pain from Auto Accidents

Northwest Spine Clinic specializes in neck pain and low back pain caused by auto accidents. We have been successfully treating whiplash and soft tissue injuries sustained in automobile accidents for many years. Specific chiropractic adjustments, injury rehabilitation and postural correction programs, and strengthening exercises help restore proper motion and re-position individual spinal bones to promote proper healing.

What is Whiplash?

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries experienced in a car accident. Even minor fender benders can produce a permanent neck injury. When the head is suddenly jerked back and forth beyond its normal limits, muscles and ligaments supporting the spine and head can be overstretched or torn. Vertebrae can be forced out of their normal position, reducing range of motion and discs between spinal bones can bulge, tear or rupture leading to permanent injury and accelerated degeneration of the spine.

The resulting instability of the spine and soft tissues can result in headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, shoulder, arm, and hand pain, reduced ability to turn and bend, and lower back problems.

Whiplash Neck Injury

Symptoms of whiplash and soft tissue injury include:

  • Numbness or tingling in any area of the body
  • Stiff neck
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Difficulty sitting or standing for long periods of time
  • Irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Inability to concentrate

If you have even one of the symptoms above, and have been in an accident, you could have a soft tissue injury.

Treatment for Auto Accident-Induced Neck and Back Pain

Following an automobile accident, the body attempts to adapt. As a result, symptoms may not appear until weeks or even months later. Pain pills won’t heal inflamed tendons, muscle relaxers won’t heal torn muscles, and cervical collars won’t restore graceful spinal curves. Chiropractic care, coupled with a specific exercise program is the best treatment for patients injured in a motor vehicle accident.
